SCWは、従来のM4カービンよりも短縮したバレルと新しいスタイルの折りたたみストックを備えたモデルで、都市部の近距離戦闘等の目的に使われる。従来のM4/M16のリュングマン式とは異なるガスピストンを用いており、信頼性が高いとされている。このガスピストン式はM5(LE1020)の経験を活かしたもので、更にサブコンパクト用として新しいバッファーシステムなど新要素が盛り込まれているとDefence Reviewで紹介されている。またそのうち海外の軍用銃の雑誌でも扱われるだろう。
