M4やM16のアクセサリー製造で知られるAtlantic Research Marketing Systems Inc. (A.R.M.S. Inc.)とTroy Industries Inc.の間に裁判があったことは、日本ではあまり知られていない。
裁判の判決についてはA.R.M.S.社から2009年7月17日にプレスリリースで情報公開されている。

もともと両社はどちらも銃器部品製造会社として有名で、近年は米軍向けのM4用のマウントレールやレールに関連したアクセサリーなどが中心になっている。
プレスリリースの情報によると、Troy Industries社の創設者兼CEOのStephen P. Troy（Steve Troy）はA.R.M.S.社に勤務していた期間があった。
この期間にTroy氏はA.R.M.S.社のM4用レール付きハンドガード・システムやハンドガードをバレルに固定するパテントを盗み、後に創設したTroy Industries社で製造・販売したという。
A.R.M.S.社の訴えによりTroy Industries社によるパテント侵害は認められ、2009年6月判決でTroy Industries社は180万ドルの支払いを命じられた。他の問題はまだ裁判が終わっていない。
日本でもトイガン用にTroyの製品が数多く売られているが、裁判後に同社の評判はどうなるのだろうか。
